Adam & Katie

Adam started playing the cornet at the age of 9. He soon joined Test Valley Brass Youth band and then progressed to the main band. His first contest was in 1993 when the band won the Hungerford Entertainment Contest. Whilst at Test Valley Brass he competed in 4 national finals in 4 years winning in 1998 and 1999 in the 4th and 3rd section respectively and competing in the Royal Albert Hall in the 2nd section in 2000. It was during this time he met girlfriend Katie Topp who had transferred from MSB to Test Valley Brass.

Whilst at college he studied A level music as one of his subjects and played in various ensembles including ska and jazz bands.

During this time he was also a member of Hampshire Youth Band with whom he toured several countries and competed in the Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall.

He eventually left the band in 2001 to go to university in Leicester but was called upon for contests by TVB on various instruments up until he transferred to Portishead to help Katie’s brother’s band out with a contest. In his time at Test Valley Brass he had seen the band rise from 4th section nationally to Championship section. When he finished University he returned to the south and he and Katie moved to Romsey where they joined Michelmersh with Adam on horn.
