NBBA West of England Regionals Torquay
After promotion to the National Brass Band Association First Section in 2008 the March regional competition in Torquay was the first chance for MSB to show what they were made of. With probably the hardest test piece that the Band has attempted much home practice was evident as was the level of concentration in the Band Room. Pentacle, by Graham Cole provided tricky time signatures and writing as well as testing solos for every section, particularly Percussion and Soprano. Regarding the latter it was a baptism of fire for the Band’s new signing, Matt “Chivers” Chiverton, who delivered a superb performance.

Under the baton of Melvin White the Band achieved a credible 7th, half way up the batting order, and beating a number of first section stalwarts in the process. There were a lot of positives to take away from the adjudicators’ comments and something to build on for the future.
